Gamjiyo is Phanmaggi's partnership with Engineers Without Borders - Karlsruhe to provide clean water and irrigation system for the women's vegetable gardens in Saba. The project derived it's name from GAM... short for Gambia and "Jiyo" Mandinka word for water.
The project has three components to:
1. Solar panels, Cables and boxes
2. Water tank, Scaffolding and Water Pump
3. Water Basins and Pipes
In summary: The solar panels supply the water pump with energy. This water pump pumps water to two water tanks,which stand on a steel scaffolding. Pipes transport the water from these water tanks to 26 water basins in the new and old garden.
The Borehole drilling commences today.
